Pop's New Mazda!

His new "roller skate" which handled like a "baby carriage." He absolutely despised those stickers the Virginia DMV put in the windshield. "Man, it makes my car look like a damn taxicab" he would complain forever. Of course we laughed and asked him how much it cost for a ride to the airport. .... My father was a car lover to his core and knew everything about makes & models going back to the 40's. During a ride with him half of the conversation was about other cars on the road. If he saw one brand new he always exclaimed.. "LOOK, the bottom is still shiny! Lucky bastard!"

For some reason he loved his name too and labeled everything with it. Notice the license plate and you can't see it but he's wearing his "Jerry" belt buckle.

Without realizing it I posed EXACTLY the same way with my new 97 F-150. It wasn't until a while later I came across the above picture Pop had sent me a few years before. We did a lot of things the same way and had the same taste in many things too. I guess that's in the genes? Over the years we have bought the exact same and I mean identical (make & model) television set, stereo receiver, clock radio, shaving cream, car radio and electric screwdriver... without even knowing it! We always thought it was a bit spooky when it happened. Other ways we were alike: Like me he hated to pick up food with his hands and would cut up a piece of chicken. He would wrap a napkin around the end of a drumstick to pick it up since it was hard to cut. We just both hated greasy hands. We both hated those horrible cherries you get on top of a sundae. We would both cringe at the sight of a bumper sticker on a car's paint (why would someone do that!) and just die if it rained on our freshly washed vehicles. Like him I am fanatical about vehicle cleanliness and immaculate clothing... always cleaned and PRESSED by hand. Just say no to dry cleaners!
